The original Pippin roller coaster, from 1924, was rebuilt in 1968 as the Thunderbolt.

A view of the Thunderbolt that most will never see... so we shared it with you!

Much of the ride was left intact and just a few modifications have been made over the years.

One of our favorite coaster photographers, @jantzen73, released two 2018 calendars filled with beautiful shots from #kennywood and #cedarpoint. Today is the last day to grab one at 30% off with code: "LULU30". Head over to the link in @jantzen73's profile to score yours. (Photo: @jantzen73) #shopsmall

The Thunderbolt was rated the #1 roller coaster by the New York Times in 1974.

Most coasters start out by going up a lift hill but the Thunderbolt take the unusual route of going into the first drop immediately and not hitting the lift hill until the middle of the ride after the second drop.

What's your favorite ride at @kennywoodpark? I've been struggling to come up with an answer, but probably the Racer (which doesnt match the photo ) or Kangaroo. #kennywood #amusementpark #themepark #amusementparks #thunderbolt #rollercoaster #ilovethecity #burghsnap #burghlove #burgh #steelcity #412 #412project #pgh #pittsburghpa #igers_pittsburgh #cityphotography #cityphotographer #citylifestyle #citylove #citygram #pafeatured #412shooterz #pghcreative #steelcitygrammers #city_features #pittsburghbeautiful
