McCutchen proposes to girlfriend on DeGeneres show
Pirates all-star outfielder Andrew McCutchen appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres show today — and fans got to see him propose to his girlfriend of four years, Maria Hanslovan.
McCutchen's publicist, John Fuller, posted a photo of a Pirates jersey with Ellen's name on it earlier this week.
Once Hanslovan accepted McCutchen's offer, DeGeneres presented her with a large bouquet of roses and a bride's veil that sported a gold Pirate “P.” McCutchen got a similarly-adorned black top hat.
Here's what Ellen's website says about today's show:
“They call him ‘The Cutch.' Pittsburgh Pirate Andrew McCutchen swings by for his first appearance on the show! The National League MVP had an incredible year, bringing the Pirates back into the spotlight with a long list of accomplishments that include his 100th career stolen base and 100th career home run.
“With Andrew front and center, the Pirates made it to the playoffs for the first time since 1992!
“Not only has the star athlete used his skills to achieve greatness on the field, he's also worked to inspire more African-American youths to join the game by serving as a mentor and leader.”
