What is Alex Trebek’s new beard?

Or rather what’s up with Alex Trebek’s new beard? On Monday night for the start of the 35th season of “Jeopardy!” the host revealed his new look.

This is Trebek's first beard on the show. In 1989 when the show started, Trebek wore a mustache and then in 2014 for the show’s 30th anniversary, he returned to his mustached-look for the first time in 13 years.

Before the show’s premiere the beard premiered on Twitter and Instagram with a short corny video.

He addressed the new look when the show opened: “No need to inquire how I spent my summer vacation. Things got a little out of hand.”

“Hopefully it won’t be a distraction for our players,” he added.

The beard quickly gained took off online with some hashtags #Trebeard, #AlexTrebeard

And “ Jeopardy!” posted a poll : To beard, or not to beard: that is the question. Vote now! #AlexTrebeard.

Last week “Jeopardy!” responded to a Twitter poll from CBS “The Late Show” host Stephen Colbert (@StephenAtHome) coincidentally about beards
