"The Avengers," opening this weekend, was partially shot in Western Pennsylvania, though it didn't get a lot of attention.
What, you mean Thor, Iron Man and the Hulk could blast into town and smash things, and we somehow didn't notice?
There's a good reason for that. They shot at Creekside Mushrooms, an underground mushroom farm located 300 feet below the surface in Worthington, Armstrong County. There are 150 miles of labyrinthine tunnels at the site, originally created by mining.
"It was a large chase scene underground," says Dawn Keezer, of the Pittsburgh Film Office.
Shooting locations for the film ranged from New York City to New Mexico. Cleveland, however, played perhaps the biggest role, featuring locations like Public Square in Downtown Cleveland and NASA's Glenn Research Center.
