Back to the Upside Down: 'Stranger Things' gets third season from Netflix

Netflix's "Stranger Things" has been renewed for a third season, according to a post on the streaming service's Twitter feed.

The first Tweet asked viewers to vote on whether there should be another season (so far, voting is 57 percent yes to 43 percent no). Then Netflix quickly responded:

FOR THE LOVE OF STEVE, DUH! So hold tight baby darts — season 3 is officially happening.

The series, set in the late 1970s and early 1980s, takes place in the fictional town of Hawkins, Indiana, where a group of kids are grappling with a secret government lab, the Mindflayer and another dimension referred to as the Upside Down.

The series stars: Finn Wolfhard, Noah Schnapp, Millie Bobby Brown, Caleb McLaughlin and Gaten Matarazzo as the plucky kids who face down some pretty gruesome stuff. The five kids, who are in their early teens, have become well-known celebrities in the series short tenure. Check out the boys doing a Motown routine with James Corden on "The Late Late Show."

Adult stars who we're pretty sure will be back for the third season include Winona Ryder, David Harbour and Joe Keery as Steve, the coolest teenage babysitter out there. No word on the future of Paul Reiser's doctor/scientist character, and alas, as Sean Astin left as hero Bob Newby at the end of season 2.

The Duffer brothers created the series and serve as executive producers. The first season received 18 Emmy nominations, and won five. Both seasons currently hold a 94 percent approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
