Mister Rogers documentary coming to HBO
Mister Rogers is coming to HBO.
The critically acclaimed documentary “Won’t You Be My Neighbor,” which chronicles the life and career of children’s television legend Fred Rogers, will premiere on HBO 8 p.m. Feb. 9, the network announced.
It will be shown at the same time on “Independent Lens” on PBS.
After its cable premiere the documentary will be available on HBO streaming and On Demand services.
The film debuted at Sundance Film Festival in January and in theaters in June.
It became the top-grossing biographical documentary of all time, raking in more than $22 million at the box office. It picked up several Documentary Critic’s Choice awards and scored 99 percent “fresh” on film critic aggregation site Rotten Tomatoes.
Another Mr. Rogers movie is in the works. “You Are My Friend” is a fictionalized biopic starring Tom Hanks, which recently filmed in Pittsburgh. Its release is set for October 2019.
