Rick Sebak gets 'Nebby' in new documentary series
WQED's popular producer Rick Sebak has come up with another documentary series celebrating the charms of Western Pennsylvania.
"Nebby: Rick Sebak's Tales of Greater Pittsburgh" will kick off at 8 p.m. Oct. 5 on WQED with "A Short History of Route 88."
The seven-episode series of 30-minute programs celebrates the region, its people and some of its idiosyncrasies. Installments will look at the Castle Shannon Firemen's Carnival, Mineral Beach, the Joe Montana Bridges on Route 43, the 4th Street Barbeque in Charleroi and the Skyview Drive-In near Carmichaels, Greene County.

The premiere episode will take viewers for a ride along the region's historic Pennsylvania Route 88, which originally ran from Erie to Monongahela, Washington County, and now goes from Route 51 in Overbrook to the town of Point Marion, near the West Virginia line in Fayette County.
The project gained widespread attention through Sebak's Kickstarter campaign (dubbed "Rickstarter") in early 2017. Contributions from more than 1,400 people raised sufficient funds to launch the series.
"Nebby" was also made possible in part by the Buhl Foundation, Huntington Bank, Levin Furniture and Louis Anthony Jewelers.
