Museums have a multitude of new summer exhibits
Western Pennsylvania is blessed with an abundance of art museums and galleries.
The bigger venues all have new exhibits opening this summer.
• Carnegie Museum of Art: CMOA and the Studio Museum in Harlem present a group exhibition with works by 40 artists, 20 from each of the collections, starting July 22.
• The Westmoreland Museum of American Art: “The Art of Movement” brings together the work of three fascinating artists, Alexander Calder, George Rickey and Tim Prentice, all of whom are leading proponents of kinetic art. June 10-Sept. 17.
• Frick Art Museum: More than 140 photographs by iconic American photographer Irving Penn (1917–2009) feature early social realist images, glamorous fashion photographs, insightful portraits, still lifes, nudes, and his late work with found objects. Opens June 17
• Andy Warhol Museum: “Stars of the Silver Screen” explores Warhol's fascination with Hollywood, fame, and stardom. June 16-Sept. 24.
