Tame Impala performs in Pittsburgh Wednesday, June 3 at Stage AE.
The psychedelic Australian rock band Tame Impala, led by recording artist Kevin Parker, brought its latest North American tour to Pittsburgh in support of their forthcoming third LP “Currents.”

Out July 17, “Currents” follows the band's 2012 sophomore album, “Lonerism,” which earned it a 2014 Grammy Award nomination for Best Alternative Music Album.

Parker's music is heavily influenced by late 1960s and early 70s psychedelic rock instrumentation, favoring often-used effects of layering, reverb and phasing electronic music over hypnotic, ambiguous lyrics.

“Currents” has been described by Parker as a process of personal transformation, explaining the first track “Let It Happen” is about “finding yourself always in this world of chaos and all this stuff going on around you and always shutting it out because you don't want to be part of it. But at some point, you realize it takes more energy to shut it out than it does to let it happen and be a part of it.”
