Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra violist Penny Anderson Brill

Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra violist Penny Anderson Brill is one of five recipients of the new Ford Musician Award for Excellence in Community Service. The award provides a $2,500 grant to each musician plus another $2,500 to their orchestras to support profesional development focused on community service.

The Ford Award is the latest recognition of Brill’s longtime devotion to the use of music in health care. She has frequently performed at hospitals and other health care facilities in Pittsburgh, and also in Europe during the orchestra’s tours.

In the past, Brill has received honors from the Pittsurgh Symphony, the 2003 North American Music Therapy Association’s Advocacy Award and, in 2006, AdagioHealth’s Tempo Award.

The other Ford Award winners are Shannon Orme, Detroit Symphony; Jeffrey Paul, South Dakota Symphony; Brian Prechtl, Baltimore Symphony and Beth Vandervennet, Oakland Symphony.
