New owner to revitalize Foundry shopping center in South Strabane

The former Foundry shopping center in South Strabane is returning to life with a new name and owner.

The Staenberg Group, a shopping center developer based in St. Louis, has renamed the open-air facility The Old Mill and has announced two major tenants, Hobby Lobby and Field & Stream. The stores will open this fall, said Sam Adler, leasing representative for the East Coast.

“We have 60 percent of the small shop area committed but are awaiting final lease signing before announcing the retailers,” Adler said.

Field & Stream is an outdoor and camping retailer operated by Findlay-based retailer Dick's Sporting Goods. Hobby Lobby is an arts and crafts retail chain based in Oklahoma City.

Adler said Longhorn Steakhouse will join two existing restaurants — Max & Erma's and Olive Garden. The developer plans to bring a fourth restaurant to the shopping center in Washington County.

The Foundry was owned by Premier Properties USA of Indianapolis, which filed for bankruptcy in 2008. Premier had announced plans for 20 retailers but only JC Penney, Ross Dress for Less, Bed Bath & Beyond along with Max & Erma's opened.

The three stores closed after shifts in the ground behind a retaining wall led to cracks in the floors and walls of the stores. JC Penney returned to Washington Mall, leaving only Max & Erma's still operating at the Foundry.
