• Seven houses will be rehabilitated and one house built on Third Avenue in Rankin as part of a $1.7 million upgrade of residential streets. Once all of the houses have been sold, the homeowner occupancy rate will double and increase tax revenue and occupancy on the street by 25 percent, said Jo Ellen Welsh. She is director of Community Outreach for the Mon Valley Initiative, co-sponsor of the project with the Rankin Community Development Corp. The seven houses are vacant. The new house will be built an old house will be demolished. Financing is by Allegheny County Department of Community and Economic Development, BNY Mellon Foundation of Southwestern Pennsylvania, PNC Bank and First Niagara Bank.
• A proposal to rezone 37 acres in the Strip District from Urban Industrial and Golden Triangle Sub-District C to Specially Planned District No. 8 Riverfront Landing will be reviewed on Tuesday by the City Planning Commission. The land is bounded by Veterans Bridge, Allegheny River, 21st Street and Smallman Street. The proposal by Buncher Co. includes a plan for a mixed-use development. The hearing will be held at 2 p.m., first floor, John P. Robins Civic Building, 200 Ross St., Downtown.
• Approval to convert a structure at 4027 Beechwood Blvd., Squirrel Hill, into a multiunit residential building will be requested on Thursday by 4017 Beechwood Blvd. LLC from the Pittsburgh Zoning Board of Adjustment. The building will have 24 parking spaces and offer counseling services for the elderly in 1,200 square feet on the first floor. Anab and Bujhil Properties LLC will request a variance to convert a five-story structure at 3811 Bigelow Blvd., Oakland, into an 11-unit apartment with nine outdoor and three indoor parking spaces. Senko Construction Inc., representing Oakland Planning & Development Co., will seek approvals for two three-story, single-family housing units with two-car parking spaces at 3610 and 3606 Frazier St. And it will seek approval for two three-story single-family attached units and one detached dwelling, two-car parking spaces for each, at 3524-26-28 Frazier St., all in Oakland.
• Boar’s Head Cafe has opened in 2,620 square feet at the Airmall in Pittsburgh International Airport, on the Transit Level of the Landside Terminal. Other openings include Bar Symon headed by celebrity Chef Michael Symon, Tech Interaction, Auntie Anne’s and Cinnabon. Bruegger’s Bagels will open this month.
• Megan Moore, formerly with Colliers International and Hertz Investment Group, has joined CBRE Inc. as vice president in the asset brokerage group.
