Pittsburgh-based Summa Technologies acquired by CGI
One of the world's largest independent IT firms has bought a Pittsburgh-based technology consulting firm.
Virginia-based CGI announced Wednesday it acquired Summa Technologies Inc.
CGI did not disclose details of the deal.
“Summa adds capabilities, strength and size to our U.S. business, allowing us to create additional focus in one of our target growth metros,” CGI President and CEO George D. Schindler said in a statement.
Summa adds about 200 people to CGI's U.S. workforce of 12,000. CGI is the fifth-largest independent IT firm in the world, the company said. Summa's employees will stay in Pittsburgh.
Summa, based Downtown, worked primarily with large Pittsburgh companies and institutions when it was founded in 1996. In 2014, CEO Audrey Dunning told the Tribune-Review it hoped to grow its revenue by 25 percent as it looked beyond Western Pennsylvania.
Dunning said then that she wanted to focus on winning business in mid-Atlantic cities such as Baltimore, Washington and Philadelphia as a way to boost growth.
The company specializes in critical software systems for financial services, education, manufacturing, retail and health care companies. It counted PPG Industries Inc. and Carnegie Mellon University among its clients in 2014.
