Fans say tearful goodbye to the Hecks as ‘The Middle’ wraps final season
It was never a big-ratings powerhouse. It was never a darling of the critics. It didn’t win a ton of awards.
But with its quirky cast of characters and easily relatable situations, the Hecks felt like family. And fans of ABC’s “The Middle” bid a fond (and tearful) goodbye as the series wrapped its ninth and final season Tuesday night.
The finale tied up all the loose ends in a few neat bows, as the Frankie Hecks among us dabbed our eyes and wiped our noses.
Cried a little saying bye to the Hecks and @TheMiddle_ABC last night which surprised me. I suppose it’s from watching it from the beginning and coming from a Midwest family of 5 but it def tugged at the heartstrings. Will miss ya most @PatriciaHeaton ! #TheMiddle

Of all the series finale weddings aired recently (and the royal one), Sue and Sean’s is my favourite. Thank you @edensher and @BeauWirick for making us constantly root for this #TheMiddle romance. pic.twitter.com/XpzmWkHp6U
