Travel tip: Lake Erie’s Put-in-Bay a quick island getaway
You’re longing for an island getaway, but you only have a weekend to spare. Put-in-Bay is about a three-hour drive and a short ferry trip away.
The resort village on South Bass Island is about 15 miles northwest of Sandusky, Ohio, in Lake Erie.
It might not have the white sand beaches, azure water and palm trees of a tropical island, but it does have historical sites, watercraft rentals, parasailing, wineries, golf, amusement complexes and even train and helicopter tours.
Accommodations include hotels, B&Bs, cottages and campgrounds. There are plenty of restaurants, too.
Coming up Aug. 17-19 are the annual Put-In-Bay Key West Days — so you might find something tropical after all.
