The Pittsburgh Travel Showcase is Jan. 11-13 at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center, Downtown

This weekend includes travel, trains and a treasure map. Looking to get away? The Pittsburgh Travel Showcase is at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center, Downtown. Model trains will be on display at the Carnegie Science Center, including the museum’s iconic Miniature Railroad & Village. “Paw Patrol Live! The Great Pirate Adventure” takes over PPG Paints Arena and discovers a pirate treasure map.

The 59th annual Pittsburgh Boat Show floats into the Monroeville Convention Center, while mascots will take the ice at Schenley Park for the annual “Mascot Skate.”

Take a trip

The Pittsburgh Travel Showcase is Jan. 11-13 at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center. Train ride

All aboard for the holiday season’s family fun finale. “Locomotion Weekend” is a two-day celebration of all things model trains, Jan. 12-13 at Carnegie Science Center on the North Side.

There will be a bevy of guest train displays by local hobbyists and train associations, in addition to the museum’s iconic Miniature Railroad & Village. New this year, is the event’s expansion into PointView Hall, the science center’s special events space featuring an unparalleled view of the Pittsburgh skyline. Visitors are invited to bring their own model trains for a free checkup by the “Loco Doctor,” which includes basic repairs, cleaning and oiling.

Ahoy!

There will be some Pirates in Pittsburgh this weekend, but they won’t be playing baseball. “Paw Patrol Live! The Great Pirate Adventure” is set for PPG Paints Arena, in Pittsburgh’s Uptown, Jan. 11-13. It’s a pirate day in Adventure Bay and Mayor Goodway is getting ready for a big celebration. But first Ryder and his team of pirate pups must rescue Cap’n Turbot from a mysterious cavern. When they do, they also discover a secret pirate treasure map. The Paw Patrol set out over land and sea to find the treasure for Mayor Goodway’s celebration before Mayor Humdinger finds it first. The pups will need all paws on deck for this pirate adventure, including some help from the newest pup, Tracker.

There will be new songs and a new storyline.

It is about an hour and a half, including an intermission and is an interactive performance where the kids can clap and yell and cheer.

Boat ride

The 59th annual Pittsburgh Boat Show is Jan. 11-13 at the Monroeville Convention Center. Dealers come from Pennsylvania, Maryland and Ohio to showcase the latest models in boating. During the show, there will be free boating safety education classes.

Ice time

Skate with some of your favorite Pittsburgh area mascots at the annual Citiparks’ “Mascot Skate” from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Jan. 12 at Schenley Ice Skating Rink in Oakland. In the past, the Pirate Parrot, Steely McBeam and IceBurgh attended as well as the Eat’n Park Smiley cookie.
