Carol and Dave's Roadhouse joins Crayon Initiative

What to do with those broken, unwanted Crayons that accumulate wherever kids do art projects?

Take them to Carol and Dave's Roadhouse in Ligonier for recycling and redistribution through the Crayon Initiative.

The nonprofit Crayon Initiative collects used and unwanted crayons and transforms them into new ones, reducing environmental waste. The recycled crayons are then distributed to art programs at children's hospitals across the United States.

The organization's website says that more than a half-million pounds of crayons are discarded annually across the U.S., equating to roughly 60 million crayons. “We are excited to be part of this program and help kids in the process,” says Dave Cassler, co-owner with wife Carol of the restaurant at 122 N. Market St.

Cassler says the restaurant already has a jump on the collection process with used crayons from the activity station available to young diners at the restaurant.

Crayons can be dropped off in the restaurant's collection box during business hours.
