Tribune-Review photographer Jasmine Goldband and garden writer Doug Oster joined forces for the award-winning online video titled “Gardener’s happy dance and more fall planting tips.”

Tribune-Review home and garden editor Doug Oster and garden writer Jessica Walliser are among the silver award of achievement winners given by GWA: The Association of Garden Communicators.

This is the fourth consecutive year Oster has won for best online video. This year's submission, which was created along with Trib photographer Jasmine Goldband, was part of the “In the Garden with Doug Oster” weekly video blog series. “Gardener's happy dance and more fall planting tips” was created in November 2015 and revolved around plants that were thriving in our warm fall and other plants that could be put in the ground in the autumn. “I'm thrilled and honored to be recognized,” says Oster, who joined the Tribune-Review last year. “It's so much fun to do the videos. This is the icing on the cake.”

In addition to the weekly video blog, Oster writes about gardening in the Trib's Friday Living section, does an online blog and produces the “Everybody Gardens” newsletter, which is available by subscription.

Walliser, who has been writing about gardening for the Trib for nearly 10 years, was recognized for best column writing for a newspaper with circulation greater than 30,000. Her column appears weekly in the Trib's Sunday Real Estate section. She also answers readers' questions in a separate column in Friday's Living section.

“It's a huge honor to be recognized for a column that I love to write,” Walliser says. “My son was jumping up and down in celebration (I wanted to do the same but tried to maintain a bit of composure). ... I feel very privileged to be able to write about what I love.”

In 2011, Oster and Walliser received the silver award for best radio on-air talent for the KDKA show they co-host, “The Organic Gardeners.”

The awards will be handed out in September in Atlanta. At that time, the gold awards in each category, such as best newspaper writing and best overall electronic media, will be announced. Oster and Walliser are in the running for the gold awards, which Oster has won previously for his video work.
