The Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium in Highland Park has welcomed 1 million visitors for the second year in a row. As of Dec. 10, the number of guests reached 1,000,510.

The zoo's Penguins on Parade helped drive up attendance numbers, officials said in a news release, as well as the summer opening of Jungle Odyssey and the Dinosaur Adventure exhibit.

"We are thrilled to have welcomed more than 1 million visitors this year," said Barbara Baker, president and CEO of Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium. "Our success is because of our visitors and their continued support. Achieving this goal proves that we are providing our visitors with a unique experience."

The zoo is an accredited member of American Humane, and the Zoological Association of America.

Most recently, the zoo announced the birth of two rare, endangered Amur tiger cubs.
