Out & About: Art exhibit at Greensburg library
Gloria Gonzalez never leaves home without her camera.
Her show, “Through My Eyes and Hands,” at Greensburg Hempfield Area Library through July 28, opened June 17 as part of Picture This at the Library.
Library director Linda Matey introduced Gonzalez to attendees.
Gonzalez said she got her first camera in college and became hooked on photographing nature.
She's not afraid to get down in the dirt to capture an interesting mushroom, or knock on a stranger's door to request permission to shoot their garden.
“They always say, ‘Go ahead,' ” Gonzalez said.
A native New Yorker, Gonzalez is a member of Greensburg Art Center, where she challenges herself to find new ways to make art.
Examples of her photography, paintings and ceramics are available for viewing during regular library hours.
“What a wonder it is to make things with your hands, things that can be thought of as primitive yet hold a special meaning,” wrote Gonzalez in her artist statement.
Picture This at the Library is a joint venture with Greensburg Art Center and serves a dual purpose: beautifying the building while showcasing local artists.
