Chuck Anderson and Dick Flock defeated Donna Tidwell and Tom Guiher 11-4 Saturday at the 11th annual Bocce nel Giardino Tournament at Greensburg Garden and Civic Center.
The theme of the Westmoreland Cultural Trust benefit was a Jimmy Buffett-style island escape.
The weather was balmy and the table centerpieces were made with sand, seashells and decorative glass containers swimming with goldfish. Palm trees waved in the breeze and an alligator balloon hovered by the Margaritaville bar.
New this year was a gallery of past tournament winners and scoreboards at each court.
The event piqued the interest of first-time attendees Marge Golembieski of Lower Burrell andNatalie Zanolli of Allegheny Township, who play on clay courts with the Marconi Club in Leechburg. They arrived early to practice on the grass.
Cookie Botti, also attending for the first time, plays bocce at the M & S Club in Jeannette. She was interested in additional WCT activities, such as the Holiday Fashion Fantasy to be held Nov. 1 at the garden and civic center.
Primary sponsor was First Commonwealth Bank, and hors d'oeuvres and a dinner buffet were provided by Rizzo's Malabar Inn in Crabtree.
Event co-chairwomen were Magdelyn Vale and Marty McGuire.
