Connellsville sets table in the street for Savor the Avenue

Crawford Avenue between Pittsburgh and Arch streets in Connellsville was closed Aug. 8 forSavor the Avenue, “Fayette County's largest dinner table.”

It's the third year for the event hosted by Greater Connellsville Chamber of Commerce.

Hors d'oeuvres were provided by the Connellsville Carnegie Free Library.

FatherBob Lubic, pastor and administrator of the Partner Parishes of Connellsville, offered a blessing and declared it “an awesome evening in the Jewel of the Yough.”

One long table was set in the street for roughly 170 attendees, who chose to dine from one of five participating eateries: Boston Beanery Uniontown, El Canelo Mexican Restaurant, Keedy's Pizzeria, Kings Pointe Catering and the Stone House Restaurant and Inn. Beverages were provided by Faris Distributing and Winslow Winery.

Supported by the Fayette County Cultural Trust, the Carpetbag Brigade Theater performed along the street. Dinner music was by The Sammy Brooks Band.

Dessert from Pechins and Pechins Firehouse Restaurant was served at the Connellsville Canteen, where vocalistKristin Markitell performed.

Connellsville Mayor Gregory Lincoln said it was “the best event of the summer.”

A portion of the proceeds will benefit New Haven Hose Company, which decorates the city for Christmas.
