If you build or renovate it, decorate it and open the doors to the public, they will come.
Even if the weather is only fit for ducks, as it was June 27, folks will flock to the annual Inside Ligonier Valley — A Home Tour.
Hosted by the Ligonier Valley Historical Society, Ligonier Valley Chamber of Commerce and Lincoln Highway Heritage Corridor, the tour offers a glimpse into homes of various vintages and styles, to the surprise and delight of attendees.
Showcased this year were:
• The authentic Cape Cod-design home of David McAdams and Gene Welsh on 25 acres in Ligonier Township. The grounds feature numerous gardens, two ponds and a saltwater infinity pool.
• A ranch-style, second-floor luxury condo in downtown Ligonier, home to Danny and Bev McMaster with an open design and private deck perfect for entertaining.
• The 1918 Colonial home of Glema Burke in Ligonier, lovingly decorated with numerous antiques and with a large master suite opening to a large deck, courtyard and the original carriage house. Upstairs is a “grandchildren's suite” for those cherished visits.
• High on a Hill, the French cottage-style home of David and Carol Painter , north of the borough, which has been carefully renovated while retaining the original charm, including arches, hardwoods, chandeliers, a marble fireplace and decorative plaster ceilings. Once home to renowned author and theologian John Gerstner, who was a mentor to David Painter, the home contains the Gerstner Study Center.
• Reynard's Lodge, a rustic log and fieldstone home in Ligonier Township, with wraparound decks and large windows overlooking the Laurel Ridge. Built in 1970, the structure was renovated in 2010 into a luxury mountain retreat with massive timbers, two stone fireplaces and other designer touches.
