The 13th annual Westmoreland County Parks and Recreation Citizens Advisory Board Green Luncheon on Sept. 22 honored those who support the county's 10 parks and five trails through financial contributions or outstanding service.
Before presentations by advisory board chairman Randy Stas, attendees helped themselves to a buffet of fresh, local foods prepared by chef Richard Kurtz at the Twin Lakes Park Expansion area in Hempfield.
Muir, Olmstead, Hornaday and Audubon fellows were honored for their financial support at various levels. Lewis fellows recognized for outstanding service were Nancy Kukovich, Roy Lenhardt, Tom and Annette Rusnock and Mon Valley Radio Control Airplane Club.
The Rusnocks, Audubon fellows and founders of the Brian's Brigade March for Parks team, raised funds for the Brian T. Rusnock Amphitheater, which was named for their son, who died unexpectedly several years ago. They also assisted with planning the summer performance schedule at the amphitheater.
Longtime board members Kukovich and Lenhardt secured funding for the expansion, and Mon Valley Radio Control Airplane Club, also an Olmstead fellow, has participated at special events at Cedar Creek Park for many years.
