Out & About: Westmoreland Art Nationals at WCCC in Youngwood
Artists from all over the country entered works in the Westmoreland Art Nationals. The show opened May 28 at Westmoreland County Community College in Youngwood.
The juried fine art and photography competition — part of Westmoreland Arts and Heritage Festival — is on display at the college until June 8.
Juror Catherine Drabkin is a painter, printmaker and educator. Curator Dan Overdorff is founder of the Headkeeper Artist Initiative in Greensburg, a horticulture instructor, landscape installation specialist and an artist. Bridget Stamp was assistant curator and Brandon Miele, Hopemarie Moyer and Nicolas Silvis were curatorial assistants.
Curator's choice and best in show went to the woodworks “Willow in the Wind” and “One Sassafras,” by Eddie Maier of Maidsville, West Va.

The second exhibit, judged by Bill Ryan, will run June 30 through July 3 at the Arts and Heritage Festival at Twin Lakes Park in Hempfield.
WAHF executive director Diane Shrader and chairman Mike Ginsburg said Westmoreland Arts and Heritage Festival Paints the Town will premiere June 23 with live painting from noon to 3 p.m. at the courthouse courtyard in Greensburg. From 6 to 9:30 p.m., the artists will paint during TGIS at the Palace Theatre.
Paints the Town artists Ray Kuchinka andJeff Donato will be at the courthouse courtyard from noon to 3 p.m. daily through July 3.
