The 12th annual Westmoreland Symphony Hat Luncheon was held June 1 for the first time at Greensburg Country Club.
Co-chairwomen Jill Briercheck andCandace Cassidy said there were about 180 guests — the most ever — and the move to a larger facility had become necessary to accommodate the growing event.
The Tip of the Hat Award was presented to Linda Assard, Sheila Caramella and Jo Ann Lightcap, who founded the event to benefit WSO after attending the Pittsburgh Symphony Hat Luncheon 13 years ago.
Part of the fun is hearing stories about the hats and outfits and their history.Jan Taylor-Condo accented her hat with a pin often worn by her mother-in-law, Rose, who was 95 when she passed away in 2007.
Anita Manoli wore a straw skimmer her father, E. S. Lavin Sr., purchased in 1950 at the Hub, a haberdashery in Latrobe.
Amy Faith's hat had been worn to the Kentucky Derby, and Barbara Flock's perfectly coordinated ensemble of tangerine was built around a dress she bought in Florida.
Musical entertainment was by Michele Boulet and Christina Andrea.
In addition to raffles and prize drawings, there was a preview of some of the items that will be available for purchase Sept. 19 at the WSO fundraiser, Cheap 'n Chic.
