Stan Gordon to discuss UFO, Bigfoot research at Ligonier museum

Jeff Himler

Greensburg resident Stan Gordon has been chronicling reported area encounters with UFOs, Bigfoot and other strange phenomena for 60 years.

He’ll provide insight into his study of such topics during presentations on three consecutive nights next month at the Southern Alleghenies Museum of Art at Ligonier Valley.

Gordon will present “Strange Aspects of the Elusive Bigfoot” on March 26, followed by “Strange Encounters of Pennsylvania” on March 27 and 28.

The cost is $5 per person for each 6 p.m. program, which will run about two hours and will include time for questions and answers. Call the museum at 724-238-6015 to reserve a seat.

In the “Bigfoot” program, Gordon will recount strange sightings of large, hairy bipedal beasts that have occurred throughout the country and consider why no bodies of such creatures have ever been found.

He’ll also discuss a surge of reported sightings and possible traces of UFOs, Bigfoot and other mysterious, unsubstantiated creatures originating in Westmoreland County, the Pittsburgh region and on Chestnut Ridge in 2018. The latter category includes reports of creatures similar to Bigfoot, “but with more wolf-like faces,” that have become known as “Dogmen,” according to Gordon.

During his “Strange Encounters” presentation, Gordon will delve into his studies of paranormal incidents, as well as Bigfoot and UFO cases. He’ll include his research of the alleged 1965 crash landing of a UFO near Kecksburg.

Gordon began his research of strange phenomena in 1959, at age 10, and expanded into field investigations after the Kecksburg incident. He’s been taking calls from the public about unusual encounters since 1969 but has noted that he’s never had a personal encounter with a UFO or Bigfoot.

Gordon has appeared in programs that have aired on such cable channels as History, Discovery and Syfy.

He has produced a UFO video documentary, “Kecksburg The Untold Story,” and written three books, “Silent Invasion: The Pennsylvania UFO-Bigfoot Casebook,” “Really Mysterious Pennsylvania” and “Astonishing Encounters: Pennsylvania’s Unknown Creatures” — which will be available for purchase and signing.

The museum is located at 1 Boucher Lane, off Route 711 just south of Ligonier.
