Ross woman charged in fatal hit-and-run on Babcock Boulevard
A Ross woman has been charged in a hit-and-run that killed a North Hills attorney Sunday night on Babcock Boulevard, according to township police.
Melinda Gregor, 29, turned herself in to police late Tuesday afternoon.
“She is emotionally distraught,” said her attorney, Phil DiLucente, at a news conference outside the Ross police station. “This is a single mother of two children.”
Gregor is charged with two counts of accidents involving death or personal injury and one count each of endangering the welfare of children and unlicensed driving.
Gregor is accused of hitting Michael Menner, 50, shortly before 7 p.m. Sunday, according to police. The incident happened as Menner was crossing the street near the Philly Pretzel Factory.
Menner, of Shaler, was pronounced dead a short time later at Allegheny General Hospital.
“I can tell you it was rainy that night,” DiLucente said. “It was a very, very bad downpour. The road conditions were not good, and it was very, very dark.”
He said witnesses said on social media that they believed Gregor's car struck a deer. He would not say whether Gregor believed she had hit a deer or why she did not stop at the scene.
DiLucente said he made sure Gregor turned herself in to police as soon as a warrant was issued.
Menner's son works at the Philly Pretzel Factory and was at work when the deadly crash happened. The company acknowledged the incident in a Facebook post.
“This is the most despicable thing that could possibly happen to any family a week before Christmas,” the post said.
