Plum officials considering properties for next year’s demolition list
Plum officials are considering five vacant properties to be demolished next year.
Assistant borough manager Dave Soboslay said structures at 3209 and 3158 Universal Road, 1007 Old Frankstown Road, 338 Coxcomb Hill Road and 9116 Oak St. are on the list for 2019.
“These are houses that have been abandoned and are structurally deficient,” he said.
Some have been overtaken by vegetation.
A hearing to condemn them is scheduled for 6 p.m. Aug. 6, at council chambers, 4575 New Texas Road.
Soboslay said the demolition project, should the properties be approved, would go out for bid next spring.
The borough budgets $25,000 annually from the general fund for demolition.
This year’s demolition project is nearly complete.
Eveready Contracting of Apollo was the lone bidder to tear down dilapidated structures at 9049 Oak St., 1057 Michelle Road, 225 Rampart Blvd. and 606 Unity Center Road.
Soboslay said the contract was for $26,500, but asbestos abatement at the Unity Center property increased the cost by $9,000.
Eveready’s demolition began in May and is expected to be completed by the end of the month.
