Chartiers Valley High School student facing charges for attack on fellow student
A Chartiers Valley High School student was charged with aggravated assault and other offenses in connection with an attack on another student inside a school bathroom.
Collier Township police announced the charges via its Facebook page Friday.
The incident took place Dec. 14.
Charges include harassment, disorderly conduct, aggravated assault and violations of the state’s wiretap law. The student was not identified.
The Council on American-Islamic Relations called for a state and federal investigation.
Other civil rights leaders pushed to have the incident called a hate crime. However, police said the evidence does not support that claim and have not charged the student with ethnic intimidation.
District officials said earlier this week that they will continue educating students and staff on tolerance, acceptance and kindness.
