The Quaker Valley and Sewickley Academy boys basketball teams are gearing up for the WPIAL playoffs, and both will take to the court Monday for one last regular-season game.

The Quakers (17-3), who finished tied for second with Ambridge in Section 2-4A, will play at Section 1-2A third-place Summit Academy (10-8) at 7:30 p.m.

The Panthers (12-7), the runners-up in Section 3-2A, will play Section 1-6A champion Pine-Richland (19-2) at 8 p.m. at the Hoops for a Cure event at Pine-Richland High School.

The WPIAL boys and girls basketball playoff pairings will be released Tuesday evening, and the opening games are slated for Friday and Saturday.

Girls basketball squads face final tests before playoffs

The playoff-bound Quaker Valley and Sewickley Academy girls basketball teams also wrap up the regular season Monday.

The Quakers (11-9), who edged Ambridge last Thursday to secure the fourth and final playoff spot from Section 2-4A, will visit Section 3-3A champion Shady Side Academy (17-2) at 7:30 p.m.

The Panthers (11-6), who finished in a three-way tie for second in Section 1-1A, pay a visit to Avonworth (14-6) at 7:30. The Antelopes tied for second place with Beaver Area in Section 1-3A.

Panthers host Meadville in PIHL divisional matchup

The Sewickley Academy hockey team has two games left in the PIHL Varsity A regular season before it turns its attention to the Penguins Cup playoffs.

The Panthers are tied with Fox Chapel for fifth in the North Division. Both are 8-8 and have 16 points.

The top eight teams in the North make the playoffs.

Sewickley Academy hosts Meadville on Monday at 7:15 p.m. at Robert Morris University’s Island Sports Center. Meadville, with three games left on its schedule, is in third place with a 12-3 mark (24 points).
