Peters Place, a mainstay of the Washington Pike business corridor in Collier, is closing its doors for good May 31.

Bill Peters, 70, who started the restaurant 33 years ago with his wife, Linda, said it is time to retire and spend more time with his granddaughter, Chloey, 6.

“And there's grandchild on the way,” he said.

“It's a tough business,” he said. “You're in at 9 a.m. and out at 10 p.m.

“But, I am going to miss the business a lot.”

The restaurant has long been a popular spot for bridal and baby showers, bereavement luncheons, family gatherings, corporate parties, or just an evening dinner for two.

Peters said the decision to close the business was not related to the health department inspection last month that cited his restaurant after an inspector found mouse droppings throughout the facility. Rather, he said he agreed to sell the building three years ago.

Allegheny County property records show that a company called Blue Devil Development LLC, which lists a Mt. Lebanon address, according to the Pennsylvania Department of State, as the buyer. Records show Blue Devil paid $1.6 million on April 18 for the 2.4-acre site next to Eat'n Park and not far from the busy intersection of Interstate 79 and Route 50 to the north and Great Southern Shopping Center to the south.

Officials with Blue Devil Development did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Peters said he has no special plans for the last day, but says the business will be remembered for serving good food at reasonable prices.
