Brilliant Avenue redesign topic of PennDOT open house
Aspinwall residents can learn more about work to realign the Brilliant Avenue/Freeport Road intersection during an open house at 6 p.m. Thursday.
The meeting, hosted in conjunction with PennDOT, will be at St. Scholastica Ministry Center, 309 Brilliant Ave.
Cost of the project is $1.4 million.
Manager Melissa Lang-O’Malley said the project is expected to create a safe entrance to the merchant parking lot, the public works facility and Aspinwall Riverfront Park.
“The current access is awkward and not clearly visible to either pedestrians or vehicles,” she said.
Designs are expected to realign the entrance with Brilliant Avenue whereas the current entrance sits off of Freeport Road through Waterworks Drive.
Aspinwall was awarded money for the work in 2014 through the state Gaming Economic Development Fund (GEDF) and PennDOT’s Multimodal Transportation Fund.
The borough received a $500,000 GEDF grant for engineering and design, and a $921,000 state grant for construction.
The meeting will give residents a chance to review plans for the work and hear a timeline for the project.
Engineers will answer questions that are submitted by noon Thursday to Melissa@boroughofaspinwall.com .
