Three Shady Side Academy students took home first place awards at the 44th annual National Society of Black Engineers' National Robotics Competition in Pittsburgh.

Senior Ezekyel Roberts, junior Trent Fuller and sophomore Eliyah Roberts won the top spot in the VEX Robotics competition as part of the FAME team at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center on March 24.

The trio will advance to compete in the VEX Robotics World Robotics Competition in Louisville, Kentucky, April 25-28.

With the theme of “Ignite. Imagine. Innovate,” the Pittsburgh competition encouraged participants to think outside the box and devise creative ways to chase their dreams.
