Shady Side Academy theater students invited to perform in Scotland
For the second time in as many years, Shady Side Academy theater students were invited to perform at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in Scotland.
Actors and technicians will present three performances of scenes from “Almost, Maine” by John Cariani on Aug. 9, 10 and 11 at the SpaceUK at Symposium Hall.
Senior School Drama Director Dana Hardy-Bingham will direct the show and Technical Director Austin Davidheiser will design.
“This is a huge honor and an amazing opportunity for our students,” Hardy-Bingham said. “We’re so excited to return to Scotland after an amazing experience in 2016.”
Not only do students get to perform on a worldwide stage, they also will have time to take in other shows during the seven-day stay, she said.
“It’s a wonderful way to experience theater abroad and meet new artistic colleagues,” she said.
Each year in August, thousands of performers take to stages in Scotland’s capital, presenting more than 3,000 shows.
In 2017, there were 53,232 performances of 3,398 shows in 300 venues at the Fringe.
Shady Side Academy students will participate through American Performing Arts International.
The 13 students include nine actors and four technical crew members: Oliver Henry, Alyssa Bockman, Sanjna Narayan, Clay Patterson, Emily Davidheiser, Annabel Everett, Mark Fire, Nathan Jyachosky, Franki Scragg, Oliver Chetlin, Lily Scheele, Izzy Scragg and Hannah Romoff.
