New staffer hopes to grow Lauri Ann West Community Center
In just over a month in her new role as Director of Development at Lauri Ann West Community Center , Jamie Rhoades said she’s impressed by the outpouring of love that community members show for the O’Hara facility.
“To see so many different people coming in every day, enjoying everything that we have to offer, is a testament to the role that our center plays here,” Rhoades said.
The center is at 1220 Powers Run Road and serves residents of the six communities in the Fox Chapel Area School District. It offers a variety of camps and classes for children and adults, from ballet to pickleball to sewing. It has a paid-membership fitness center, a gymnasium and private meeting rooms.
In her new role, Rhoades, a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh, will manage the center’s fundraising events, build relationships with current donors, identify additional funding opportunities and oversee marketing.
She’s gearing up for this weekend’s Celebrate the Center festivities, the key fundraiser hosted each year to benefit the center’s growth. This year’s theme is Oktoberfest and will be brimming with fall food, craft beer and live music by local group Asphalt Rodeo.
The Verona resident came on board at Lauri Ann West in August after serving the past six years at ACHIEVA, a group that provides services for people with disabilities. There, she managed fundraising events, grant writing and annual appeals.
Previously, Rhoades worked 12 years in fundraising for local nonprofits like the March of Dimes and the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation.
She is currently a board member for the Association of Fundraising Professionals Western Pennsylvania chapter and the Pittsburgh Planned Giving Council.
“I’m looking forward to meeting with donors and friends of the community center to understand why they give, their favorite programs and what excites them about the impact they help us to create,” she said.
