‘Mary Poppins Jr.’ on stage at Dorseyville Middle School
Dorseyville Middle School students will present the enchanted adventures of “Mary Poppins Jr.,” which promises a magical script and toe-tapping lyrical numbers.
“When I got the script and began to read it and listen to the musical score, I really fell in love with the story,” Teacher and Director Pam Fiano said. “It’s very uplifting and inspiring. And the music is just wonderful.
“I find myself thinking this every year, but I do believe this will be one of my favorite shows.”
The musical hits the stage at 7 p.m. Nov. 15 to 16 and 10 a.m. Nov. 17 at the DMS auditorium, 3732 Saxonburg Blvd., Indiana Township.
Tickets cost $8.50 at showclix.com/event/dms-mary-poppins-jr . If available, tickets also will be sold at the door for $9.
The show takes audience members on a trip to 1900s England, following the adventures of a stern nanny and a troubled family into which she injects love, mischief and healing.
For Mia Lynch, 13, who plays the role of Winifred Banks, the best part of performing is the excitement just before getting on stage.
“I love buying and trying on costumes and getting ready with friends before the show,” she said. “During the show, my favorite part is when the curtain first opens and everyone is happy, excited and ready to finally perform.”
Lynch said this show, in particular, is fun because it’s a favorite of all ages.
“It has lots of dancing and singing, and the whole cast works together in such a great way,” she said.
In total, there are more than 120 students in the cast and crew, which makes for a perfect team-building opportunity, leaders said.
Eighth-grader Adam Zimmerman is in his second year working behind the scenes for the spring production.
He said the musical creates a camaraderie and gives all students the chance to pitch in.
“One of my favorite things about it is that everyone gets along, helps each other and has a great time,” Zimmerman said. “The musical is a great way to get friends and bond with everyone.”
