Here’s what’s happening around town: Friday, Jan. 25
Tomorrow, the community is coming together to help someone dedicated to keeping their hometown safe.
The pasta dinner fundraiser for Sewickley Police Officer Mark Smilek, who is fighting cancer, is happening from 1 to 6 p.m. Saturday at St. James School cafeteria.
Smilek, 45, was diagnosed in May 2017 with acute lymphocytic leukemia, an aggressive form of blood and bone marrow cancer affecting white blood cells. When chemotherapy didn’t completely eradicate the disease, Smilek went through full-body radiation and a stem cell transplant. Months later, the cancer returned, and Smilek underwent a second stem cell transplant this past November.
All proceeds from the authentic Italian meal, prepared by fellow officer Leo DiCesare, will go toward Smilek’s uncovered medical expenses.
Go enjoy a great meal for a good cause!
