I was very interested to learn PNC Financial Services Group Chairman and CEO James Rohr received about $10.5 million compensation last year ( "PNC chief got $10.5 million in total pay last year," Business, March 24).
I am the treasurer for a small Sunday school group with a balance of about $1,500, and have been a customer of PNC for 25 years. I noticed in my February statement that I am now being charged a $3-per-month service charge for returning canceled checks. I write only eight or nine checks a year -- there were none in February and still I was charged this fee.
The kids contribute their dimes and quarters so that Mr. Rohr can receive his $10.5 million.
It was also interesting to learn many customers do not receive a $3 monthly service charge. Upon inquiry, I learned that they are "preferred customers." I assume a small Sunday school account is not "preferred."
I don't know what religion Rohr subscribes to; I know I don't want to be a part of it.
