Carnegie will not hold its Arts & Heritage Festival this year.

The festival, held the weekend after Labor Day on East and West Main streets for 24 years, attracted about 10,000 to 12,000 people, said event chairwoman Leigh White, executive director of the Carnegie Community Development Corp.

Several factors contributed to the decision to cancel the festival, including dwindling sponsorship money, difficulty attracting volunteers and the “ever-growing dependence of selling alcohol to ensure the financial success of the festival,” municipal manager Jeff Harbin said.

White said it became clear last year that organizers needed more volunteers. “That was one of the main things” that led to its cancellation, she said.
