Discovery Communications announced Monday the launch of a service to help children with their homework for $9.95 a month.

The company is the owner of the Discovery Channel, Animal Planet and TLC.

The company says that Cosmeo.com is based on a service already marketed to schools. Judith McHale, Discovery's CEO, told USA Today that the company has been providing learning materials since its founding when teachers used to tape Discovery programs to use in class.

Cosmeo.com is only available with high-speed Internet access, but McHale said it will be available free to public libraries.
