'IGPX' is another example of a cool idea falling flat

Racing mechs smashing each other to bits while speeding toward the finish line at 350 mph• Sounds like a concept that can sell itself.

And this is where the inevitable "but" comes into play. What starts off as a great idea for "IGPX: Immortal Grand Prix" (based on the Cartoon Network cartoon) never really accelerates to meet its potential.

Your team of mech robot pilots competes against other teams in contests not only of speed, but also survival. However, "IGPX" never captures the feeling of breakneck speed, nor does the clunky fighting on the track ever satisfy the inner road-rager.

As for its cartoon tie-in, the brief dialogue snippets don't draw you into any meaningful interaction with the characters. I was tired of Liz calling me a slacker, but at least the cat chimed in every once in a while with an encouraging "meow!"

The "Burnout Revenge" and "Mario Kart" series blow away the competition when it comes to that delicious combination of speed and destruction. It's not that "IGPX" is terrible, but it only squeaks by as adequate, more like something to play while hazed out on NyQuil recovering from the flu. Additional Information:
