JAL apologizes for serving kids U.S. beef
Japan Airlines apologized to its customers Friday for serving children's meals that included spaghetti sauce made with U.S. beef.
The meals were served on flights from Guam to Japan, Kyodo News Service reported.
The airline banned U.S. beef from its planes after Japan barred imports in 2003 following reports of mad cow disease in U.S. cattle. The 80 companies that provide in-flight meals for JAL were all notified.
But a provider on Guam mistakenly used U.S. beef for spaghetti sauce for meals prepared for toddlers, with about 5,200 served.
An investigation has found no evidence that eating the beef harmed anyone.
