Pack of sharks kill Australian woman, 21
Beaches off Brisbane, Australia, were closed Sunday as officials hunted for several sharks that tore apart a 21-year-old woman.
Sarah Whiley was attacked Saturday in shallow water at Amity Point by as many as three bull sharks, the Australian Broadcasting Corp., reported.
"The deceased came out of the water and screamed 'shark' -- of course people at the time thought she was only joking until they saw the blood," said Queensland Police Inspector Peter Harding.
He said the beach was closed to allow wildlife officials to hunt for the sharks "to see if they could have any body parts."
Both of Whiley's arms were severed, and she also sustained massive trauma to her torso and legs. She was alive when pulled from the water, but died soon after being airlifted to a hospital of blood loss.
