Senior point guard Corey Bickert continues his pursuit to become the second boys basketball player in Riverview history to score more than 1,000 career points.

With games like this, the milestone will come quicker.

Bickert scored a career-high and school-record 39 points Tuesday night, as Riverview eked past host West Shamokin, 54-49, in a Section 1-AA game.

Bickert, who has 976 career points, hit six 3-pointers for the Raiders (7-3, 4-0).

Bickert had a 33-point game in the Raiders’ season opener against Cambria Heights and 36 at Serra Catholic.

The previous record of 36 points was set by Joe Kissane in the 1990-91 season. The 6-foot Bickert got off to a quick start, scoring 16 points in the first quarter.

Riverview led, 32-20, at the half.

Anthony Rocco, who had 25 points, helped the Wolves (5-7, 2-2) rally.

Freeport 75, Apollo-Ridge 61 — Senior guard Ryan Dunn hit six 3-pointers and finished with a career-high 34 points, and junior guard Brendan Lynch contributed 22 points to lead Freeport (6-3, 2-2) past Apollo-Ridge (6-6, 1-4) in Section 1-AA. Apollo-Ridge’s Anthony Bozzarrelli and Josh Reynolds scored 16 and 15 points, respectively.

Burrell 43, Deer Lakes 31 — Matt Hess scored 14 points to lead Burrell to a Section 1-AAA win over Deer Lakes. Ryan Puchak added 12 points for the Buccaneers (8-4, 2-4).

Joey Rebel scored 13 for the Lancers (2-9, 1-4).

Ford City 54, Redbank Valley 39 — Jon Shanty hit five 3-pointers and scored a game-high 28 points to lead the Sabers (7-5) to a nonsection win over winless Redbank Valley (0-10).

Mars 56, Highlands 47 — Senior point guard Micah Mason scored a game-high 23 points for Highlands in a Section 1-AAA loss to the Planets (8-3, 4-1).

Mason, who was held without a 3-pointer in a game for the first time since his sophomore season, is within 73 points of 2,000 for his career.

Gage Clark added a season-high 13 points for Highlands (3-8, 2-3).

Kiski Area 81, Latrobe 62 — Joe Brungo scored 17 of his career-high 22 points in the first half and led five Kiski Area players in double figures, as the Cavaliers (8-3, 4-1) won a Section 1-AAAA game.

Kiski Area opened the game on a 14-0 run.

Nick Stone added 17 points, Adam Robinson had 16, Tre Carter 14 and Alex Lamendola 10 for the Cavaliers.

Plum 59, Penn Hills 43 — Plum was led by Nolan Cressler’s 16 points in a Section 2-AAAA win over Penn Hills. Tarique Ellis chipped in 15 points for the Mustangs (8-3, 3-1).

Shy Faulkner scored 20 points to lead the Indians (4-7, 1-3).

St. Joseph 69, Elderton 23 — St. Joseph’s 27 first-quarter points was more productive than Elderton’s point total for the game in a Section 4-A matchup.

Mike Connelly led all scorers with 20 points for St. Joseph (6-4, 1-1).

Cheswick Christian Academy 57, Harvest Baptist Academy 50 — Sophomore forward JaJuan Malloy came off the bench and scored a career-high 15 points to lead Cheswick Christian (7-6, 4-2) past Harvest Baptist (4-1) in a key Southwest Christian Athletic Conference game.

Girls basketball

Plum 67, Penn Hills 36 — Baylor recruit Destiny Brown dropped 30 points for Gateway (7-1, 4-0) in a Section 2-AAAA win over Fox Chapel (1-11, 0-5).

Chelsea Richardson scored 14 points, and Morgan Hainsey added 10 for Gateway.

Plum 67, Penn Hills 36 — Krista Pietropola’s 17 points led a trio of Plum players who finished in double figures in a Section 2-AAAA win over Penn Hills. Angie Borriello added 13 while Regan Donatelli finished with 11 for the Mustangs (8-5, 3-1).

Gloria Shifino scored 13 points for the Indians (3-9, 1-3).
