Running back Clinton Portis and cornerback Shawn Springs didn’t practice Tuesday, and their availability for Monday night’s regular-season opener against Minnesota was uncertain. Portis, who partially dislocated his shoulder in the preseason opener against Cincinnati, was the only player not on the field at the start of the workout but arrived to watch before it was over. Portis didn’t comment as he left the field. Coach Joe Gibbs said he needs to see Portis practice before putting him in a game. The players will be off today, followed by three days of full practice Thursday through Saturday. &#149 The New Orleans Saints signed former Oakland Raiders linebacker Danny Clark yesterday and released veteran safety Jay Bellamy to make room on the roster.

“This was another opportunity to improve our roster,” general manager Mickey Loomis said. “Danny has been a productive player and has a wealth of starting experience. He’s a veteran who won’t need a lot of time to become a contributor for our team.” &#149 The Tennessee Titans agreed to terms yesterday with defensive tackle Robaire Smith in a move that should improve their run defense. Smith spent his first four seasons in the NFL with the Titans, then left as a free agent for Houston, where he started 32 games at right end in the Texans’ 3-4 defense.

Digits 65,000 – Season tickets sold by the New Orleans Saints, leaving 3,300 to ensure sellouts for the entire season. Additional Information:
