U.S. satellite and cable TV customers are turning toward digital video recorders, helped by aggressive marketing and special deals from providers.
Roughly one-half of the 108 million satellite and cable TV subscribers will be using DVRs by 2010, the Wall Street Journal reported Tuesday.
Currently, about 28 percent of satellite TV users have the devices while the figure for cable subscribers stands at about 10 percent, says a nationwide survey by a northern California consulting firm, The Carmel Group.
The study says satellite and cable providers will see their overall revenues increase five times, to about $5.5 billion during the next five years, thanks to DVR usage.
The report said DVRs are becoming "must have" equipment in U.S. homes, similar to color TV sets and cell phones.
