UPMC has proposed building a medical facility in the South Hills that would offer inpatient and outpatient services not far from rival Allegheny Health Network's Jefferson Hospital.
The hospital system proposed building the facility along Route 51 in Pleasant Hills. The borough's zoning hearing board will hold a public hearing on the facility Tuesday, according to borough Manager Deborah Englert.
If approved, the facility would offer “emergency care, intensive care, preventive care and (the) latest imaging technology” and would accommodate inpatients, UPMC said in a prepared statement. A spokeswoman declined to share more information on the proposal.
Jefferson Hospital, a 341-bed inpatient and outpatient center, is a few miles from Pleasant Hills in Jefferson Hills.
“UPMC is once again demonstrating its commitment to investing in our region's communities ... to serve area patients closer to home,” UPMC said in the statement. “We look forward to working closely with the community in the process.”
The project is expected to create hundreds of jobs, UPMC officials said.
