Residents wary of developers plan to build apartments in Monroeville
Some Monroeville residents expressed concern Thursday about a developer’s plan to build a 92-unit apartment building along Evergreen Drive.
A.R. Building first approached the municipality in November with a request to rezone two properties from special use and business commercial to multi-family. Council approved its request in December.
The developer plans to begin construction as soon as possible and expects it to last last for 14 months.
Shana Rowe, who lives next to the proposed development, said she was worried about possible noise the construction and eventual tenants could cause.
“I moved because it’s very peaceful and quiet,” Rowe said. “I have a 10-year-old daughter; she likes to ride her bicycle up and down the road.”
Diane Echegaray, who also lives on Evergreen Drive, had concerns with potential traffic and wanted to make sure the company would build a sidewalk along the road.
Jason Kambitsis, director of land development for A.R. Building, said the company will make sure a sidewalk is constructed.
Kambitsis said in December the complex will include a fitness area, and each room will be furnished with stainless steel appliances and include a balcony. Depending on bedroom count, rates will be between $1,000 and $1,800 per month.
He said the complex will resemble the company’s Bright Oaks complex in Oakdale. The company has nearly 9,000 apartments and townhomes in nine states, according to its website.
Monroeville council will vote on a finalized site plan Aug. 14.
