A developer has plans to build a four-story, 85-unit apartment complex in Monroeville.
Monroeville’s planning commission recently recommended approval of A.R. Building Company plans to rezone two properties on Evergreen Drive near Old William Penn Highway from special use and business commercial to multi-family — a change needed for the project to move forward.
Jason Kambitsis, director of land development for A.R. Building, said the complex will include a fitness area and each room will be furnished with stainless steel appliances and a balcony. Depending on bedroom count, rates will be between $1,000 and $1,800 per month.
He said the complex will resemble the company’s Bright Oaks complex in Oakdale. The Seven Fields-based company has nearly 9,000 apartments and townhomes in nine states.
Monroeville resident Diane Echegaray expressed concerns about traffic at the complex’s entrance on Evergreen Drive during the planning commission’s November meeting.
“It’s narrow; there are children on that street,” she said, suggesting the company construct an on-ramp from Old William Penn Highway.
The developer’s contracted engineer, Ray Gusty of Fahringer, McCarty, Grey Inc., said he does not think Echegaray’s suggestion is feasible but said a traffic study would be done if council approves rezoning.
Monroeville council will vote on the rezoning request during its Dec. 12 meeting at 2700 Monroeville Blvd.
